Senator Nominations for 2026 Election Cycle
The nomination period for the 2026 Professional Staff Senate elections will be held March 11 - March 25, 2026.
Professional staff can use the nomination form to either self-nominate or to nominate other colleagues.
Nomination form will go live on March 11.
Following nomination, the Rules Committee Chair will contact nominated professional staff to confirm their candidacy. To appear on the Spring 2026 election ballot, all nominees must confirm their candidacy and submit their candidate statement no later than Friday, April 3rd.

Eligibility for Senate Seats
All constituents of the Professional Staff Senate (PSS) who are not currently senators in the first year of a two year term are eligible to run for a senate seat. The constituency of PSS consists of all professional staff holding permanent, term, administrative or temporary appointment, with the exception of
- The President and Vice Presidents.
- Those with academic or qualified academic rank whose primary responsibility is teaching, research or the Library.
- Those with voting faculty privileges.
Staff Senators typically serve two-year terms, beginning at the start of the fall semester, and work to represent the concerns of professional staff at Binghamton University. Staff Senators are required to attend biweekly meetings during the academic year. Members elected to the Senate are eligible to vote on campus governance issues, to chair internal PSS committees, and to serve as PSS officers.
Senator Expectations
Elected Senators are expected to:
- Represent the concerns of professional staff at Binghamton University
- Attend biweekly meetings scheduled during the academic year
- Serve a two-year term, beginning at the start of the fall semester
- Vote on campus governance updates and issues
Elected Senators are eligible to chair PSS committees and to serve as PSS officers.
Sample Candidate Statements
Candidates will be asked to provide a brief statement like the examples below, maximum of 1,000 characters including spaces.
- "I am new to the university and am interested in becoming more involved with staff government. I have held leadership roles in several organizations in the past and would like to bring my experience to PSS."
- "I have served on the Professional Staff Senate for the last two years, working on the Communications Committee and supporting programs and events organized by PSS. I have learned a great deal during my first term and want to continue acting as a voice for my peers in the Senate."
