CATs/COEs in New York

Empire State Development's Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR) programs and centers work with industry to leverage New York State's technology strengths to produce new products.

NYSTAR supports 13 Centers of Excellence to foster collaboration between the academic research community and the business sector. This program was created to enhance and accelerate the centers' operations, facilitating university-industry R&D, product commercialization and workforce training. S3IP recently celebrated its 10th anniversary as a New York State Center of Excellence.

NYSTAR also funds 15 Centers for Advanced Technology (CATs) to encourage greater collaboration between private industry and universities in the development and application of new technologies. S3IP has two centers that are part of the CAT program. The Integrated Electronics Engineering Center is dedicated to the advancement of electronics packaging technology and the electronics industry. The Center for Flexible Hybrid Medical Device Manufacturing focuses on flexible electronics.
