Professional Development

Respect, Diversity and Success for our Workforce

Professional development is an essential component of Binghamton University's strategic plan. It is professional development's goal to develop people to their full potential, maximize career mobility and provide important tools and skills for success in the various roles on campus.

Career Development and Coaching

The Office of Human Resources provides administrative support for the career coaching program on campus.  With grand funding provided through UUP and the NYS Joint Labor-Management Committee, this program offers career development in the form of workshops, publications, and individual coaching sessions by a certified career coach.  For more information, contact our campus career coach Sharon O'Neill.

Human Resources Workshops and Just-in-Time Training

Human Resources is an active member of the University-wide Professional Development Committee and provides subject matter expertise for regularly scheduled HR workshops.

Managers, supervisors, and department chairs are encouraged to contact HR for guidance and training in the personnel-related duties for their staff.  Also, the "Managers and Supervisors" section of the Human Resources website includes resources that guide managers in their role.

University Center for Training and Development

Collaboration among several campus offices and departments produces a range of offerings on a regular basis. The effort is coordinated by the University's Professional Development Committee and the University Center for Training and Development.

Topics include supervisory/management skills, wellness, technology, retirement planning, and general interest programs such as identify theft, personal safety, e-mail etiquette and much more. We encourage you to take advantage of these personal and professional development opportunities, and to explore the offerings of campus partners, including the Employee Assistance Program, University Libraries, School of Management, Facilities Management, Human Resources, Affirmative Action, UUP, CSEA, University Police, Campus Recreation and more.

To view the calendar of workshops, and to enroll, visit the University Center for Training and Development website at http://training.binghamton.edu.
