Dining Services Facilities Posting and Promotional Activities Policy
Purpose
This policy establishes guidelines for the posting and promotion of events, programs,
services, announcements, and other informational materials within Residential Dining
Service facilities at Binghamton University. These facilities include dining halls,
dining rooms, serving areas and serveries, and other spaces designated for or directly
supporting residential dining operations.
The purpose of this policy is to maintain an organized, safe, and welcoming environment while providing University departments, Student Association (SA) Chartered Organizations, and Fraternity and Sorority Life organizations with opportunities to communicate with the campus community through designated posting areas.
The University recognizes campus members’ ability to share information, announcements, and viewpoints. However, to maintain clean, safe, and accessible dining facilities, posting and solicitation in dining halls are subject to reasonable time, place, and manner restrictions.
Definitions
- Posting: The placement or distribution of materials in designated, University-approved locations for the purpose of communication, advertisement, or information sharing.
- Printed Materials: Any physical, non-digital items used for communication, promotion, or informational purposes. This includes, but is not limited to, banners, flyers, posters, table tents, brochures, signage, and other similar display or handout materials intended for public visibility or distribution.
- Promotional Activities: Authorized tabling or in-person outreach conducted to advertise, market, or publicize an event, product, service, or organization to the campus community.
General Guidelines
- Promotional activities may not disrupt dining operations, impede pedestrian traffic, interfere with customer service, or create safety concerns.
- Printed materials may not be placed on dining tables, chairs, counters, service areas, or other dining room furnishings.
- Commercial solicitation, sales activities, and the distribution of promotional items are prohibited unless expressly authorized by the University.
Approved Locations
- Printed materials may only be posted on designated bulletin boards, display cases, or other approved posting areas within Residential Dining Services facilities.
- Posting on walls, doors, windows, glass surfaces, equipment, furniture, tables, service counters, trash receptacles, or any other non-designated surface is prohibited.
Who Can Post?
University departments, Student Association (SA) Chartered Organizations, and Fraternity and Sorority Life organizations may submit approved materials.
Printed Material Specifications
- Printed materials may not exceed 11" Ă— 17" unless prior approval is granted.
- The posting must be securely affixed using materials approved by Dining Services. Approved materials include push pins on bulletin boards and approved damage-free adhesive products (e.g., Command strips) on other surfaces. All materials must be easily removable and not damage university property.
- The individual or organization responsible for the posting must be clearly identified on the posting.
- Postings may not be placed over emergency information, required notices, or directional signs.
- Only one copy of the same printed material may be displayed within each designated posting area.
- Existing and current postings may not be removed, covered, rearranged, defaced, or otherwise altered by individuals placing new materials.
Duration and Removal
- Materials may remain posted until the advertised event date or for a reasonable period of time
- Dining Services reserves the right to remove expired, damaged, outdated, duplicate, or non-compliant materials at any time.
Compliance and Enforcement
- Repeated violations of this policy may result in the suspension or revocation of posting privileges.
