Binghamton University EWaste Recycling Program

Housed in the Technology Hub at Binghamton University exists a little known service that creates a large positive impact on our environment. For many years Information Technology Services (ITS) has led the effort to collect and dispose of campus electronic waste in an environmentally friendly way.

After unused University electronic devices are dropped off at the Technology Hub, ITS Staff evaluate the devices to determine if they are still viable and can be redeployed across the campuses. If the devices cannot be reused on campus, then they will be shipped to and recycled by a RIOS certified recycling firm. Each year ITS Operations staff process over 70,000 pounds of electronic waste in this manner, and of that waste less and one percent (1%) ends up in a landfill.

Campus departments wishing to dispose of electronic waste can open a work order with Physical Facilities to have the equipment picked up and delivered to the Technology Hub. Alternatively equipment can be dropped off directly at the Technology Hub, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 607-777-6420 or helpdesk@binghamton.edu to schedule a dropoff.
