Holiday Break Information

Physical Facilities will have reduced services during the holiday break.

Buildings

In general, ambient temperatures will be maintained at approximately 55 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Please dress accordingly.

Staff who intend to work over the break and do not have a key to unlock their building should either work with their building administrator for access or go to university police for assistance in accessing the building.

Research

All research labs including the Biotechnology Building, Engineering and Science Building, Center of Excellence, Smart Energy, Science 2, Science 3, Science 4, Science 5 and the School of Pharmacy will maintain normal temperatures. Offices in these buildings may be cooler than normal.

Custodial Services

Regular custodial services will end at 3:30 p.m. Friday, December 21. Please be sure to dispose of perishables/food in corridor or restroom trash cans prior to then. Regular services will resume Wednesday, January 2.

Customer Service Center

Physical Facilities Customer Service Center will observe the following schedule during the break period.

Wednesday, December 26: 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Thursday, December 27: 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Friday, December 28: 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Central Receiving

Monday, December 24: Closed
Tuesday, December 25: Closed
Wednesday, December 26: 7 a.m.to 3:30 p.m.
Thursday, December 27: 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

During this time, Central Receiving will be delivering small packages on campus during their normal business schedule. If your office will be closed, and you would like your packages to be delivered upon request only, or you would like to come to Central Receiving to pick your packages, please call Central Receiving at 777-4004 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. before Friday, December 21.

Campus Mail Services

Campus Mail Services will have normal hours and services Friday, December 21.

Campus Mail Services will have reduced services Monday, December 24. Mail delivery and pick-up will operate in the morning. The ITC, University Downtown Center and School of Pharmacy locations will be serviced earlier than usual. There will be no window services.

During curtailment dates December 26 through January 1, CMS will be in operation from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Faculty and staff wanting to pick up mail may do so from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Please call 777-2372 ahead of time and bring your University identification. Mail will be sorted by department so individuals will have to sort through department mail to find personally addressed mail.

The U.S. Postal Service will pick up mail from post boxes on the south side of the University Union on their normal schedule.

The stamp vending machine will be available in the CMS main lobby.

Regular hours and services resume January 2.

Close Windows

Please be sure that all windows in your area are closed prior to leaving for the break.

Unplug Appliances Before the Break

"Phantom" loads, or the power consumed by any device while it is switched off, occur in most appliances that use electricity, such as VCRs, televisions, stereos, computers and kitchen appliances. In the average home, 75 percent of the electricity used to power electronics is consumed while the products are turned off. This can be avoided by unplugging the appliance or using a power strip and using the switch on the power strip to cut all power to the appliance. Remember to unplug all unnecessary appliances before you leave for winter break.
