ABOUT THE COURSE

Through a series of board-based simulated exercises about the foundations of business, participants will learn firsthand how to monitor cash flow, better utilize resources and improve productivity. Participants will work with balance sheets and profit and loss statements, learn how to measure results and understand how daily decisions affect the company financially and strategically.

Participants are grouped in teams who are competing with each other. To see if a team wins or loses, the teams have to complete the financial statements for every simulated year. The learning curve is steep and, with new insights, participants come up with ideas to improve profitability. The workshop is a fun and effective approach to realizing serious business results.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • • Learn the basic business finance language and the logic of business – “how it works.”
  • Understand how a business generates profit today and how it will need to grow profitably in the future.
  • The manufacturing version: Understand how to optimize working capital and how the use of assets affects profitability and cash flow.
  • Gain a better idea of the issues that arise when scaling a company for growth.
  • See how small changes in operations – such as enhancing the information flow, improving purchase efficiency and engaging people – can significantly change the outcome and improve bottom-line results.
