The 20:1 Sexual Assault Prevention Program

Binghamton University’s 20:1 Sexual Assault Prevention Program (SAPRO) was identified by the United States Department of Defense (DoD) Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office (SAPRO) as a model program for sexual assault peer education programs. The program has been mentioned by the DoD at White House briefings and 20:1 Coordinators Dara Raboy-Picciano and Randall M-J Edouard were selected to be the first presenters for the new DoD SAPRO webinar series, which launched October 30. This webinar reached 105 installations at different military bases throughout the United States.

A pilot 20:1 program initiated by Binghamton University for ROTC has also been well received, and according to the DoD is the first program of its kind on any college campus. In October, 20:1 interns, under the leadership of an Air Force cadet who is also a 20:1 intern, presented a gender-specific program to Air Force cadets from Binghamton University and Cornell universities, Elmira College and SUNY Cortland at Cornell. The 20:1 program will be presented again in the spring and be an ongoing commitment from the Air Force ROTC.

Binghamton University’s 20:1 program is poised to pilot a similar program with Army ROTC in fall 2014.
