Harpur Grants & Awards (available only to Harpur faculty)
Harpur College Faculty Mutual Mentoring Initiative
The purpose of Harpur College's mutual mentoring initiative is to support the formation of mutual mentoring teams. Such teams might form within departments, as interdisciplinary groups (accommodating common research interests and approaches), or as affinity groups (accommodating common challenges).
Harpur College Dean's Teaching Release Award
The Dean's Teaching Release Award is offered to pre-tenure faculty members in Harpur College to help promote their prospects for tenure and promotion at Binghamton University. Awardees are exempted from major teaching obligations but retain full faculty status, salary, and rights, thereby allowing them to concentrate on a significant scholarly or creative project.
Eligible pre-tenure faculty must work with their department chair to ensure that these course reductions support their scholarly development as well as accommodate their department's curriculum. Please click below for more information and to access the request for teaching release award application.
Harpur College Faculty Research and Subvention Fund Program
Harpur College Faculty Research and Subvention Fund Program supports Harpur faculty-led research projects, creative endeavors, and scholarly activities. Proposals will be reviewed on the basis of their potential to establish new projects and to contribute to faculty career advancement.
This program also includes support for "subvention" proposals.
Visiting Speaker Fund
The Visiting Speaker Fund helps Harpur departments and programs bring in outside speakers who will offer scholarly, artistic, or intellectual merit to the University community. Any faculty member may submit a request signed by their department chair or program director.
Harpur College Dean’s Conference Funding
This award is intended to support on-campus and department-hosted regional/national conferences. The award can provide a portion of the costs necessary to host a conference or workshop.
Harpur College “Finish Line” Grant Program
NOTE: The "Finish Line" Grant Program is currently paused for 2024-25. The goal of this grant program is to support faculty at the associate professor rank who require resources to assist them in completing “finish line” projects that would directly contribute to their promotion to full professor.

- Support for Faculty Parents and Caregivers
Support for Faculty Parents and Caregivers
Harpur College aims to provide support for faculty parents and caregivers, who face special challenges in pursuing their teaching and intellectual work.
To assure that they can balance their professional responsibilities with the demands placed on them by changes in their family life, the campus offers a program that allows tenure-track faculty to request an adjustment of work responsibilities during the semester of a birth or adoption or during the semester following a birth or adoption (Parental Leave General Guidelines). The decision regarding the semester in which the adjustment will take place will be made in discussion between the faculty member and the dean, in consultation with the department chair, and will take into account the needs of the faculty member, the department, and the college. During this period, the faculty member may have their professional obligation allocated exclusively to research and service.
Upon the faculty member’s request, the tenure clock will be stopped for up to one year following the birth or adoption of a child or foster placement. This form should be submitted to the dean’s office, which will forward it to HR for processing.
Binghamton University also participates in the New York State Paid Family Leave Program, which provides eligible employees with paid time off to bond with a newly born, adopted, or fostered child, to care for a family member with a serious health condition, or to assist loved ones when a spouse, domestic partner, child or parent is deployed abroad on active military service.
Harpur College reserves a limited number of places in the Campus Pre-School for its faculty and staff. Newly appointed faculty members are provided first access to these slots, as they become available.
Questions about these leave policies may be directed to Associate Dean Pam Smart or Assistant Director of Human Resources, Vicki Metritikas. To express interest in the spots that Harpur has reserved at the Campus Pre-School, contact Pam Smart. -

- Harpur College Academic Honesty
Mutual integrity and trust are at the core of Harpur College's and Binghamton University's educational mission. The Academic Honesty Code – which can be found in the University Bulletin – establishes guidelines for academic integrity on our campus.
Should you suspect a case of academic dishonesty in your classroom, please first consult the Chair of the Harpur College Academic Honesty Committee via email to discuss your options for addressing the situation. Depending on the individual case, there are several possible courses of action:
If the offense is minor AND the student does not have a record of a previous infraction, you may use an Admission of Dishonesty Form. By signing this form, the student acknowledges and accepts responsibility for their actions and agrees to an appropriate penalty set by the instructor. A note is put on the student's file and, provided they do not have another infraction during the rest of their college careers, the infraction is expunged from any University records once they graduate.
If the offense is major OR the student already has at least one infraction, the case is automatically referred to the hearing process, where it will be resolved either through an administrative hearing with the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs or through a full hearing before the designated hearing board in Harpur College. In these case, the reviewing body will ultimately determine the appropriate penalty, if one is needed. More information can be found in the Harpur College Academic Honesty Hearing Procedures.
Questions about this process or academic honesty in general can be directed to the Chair for Academic Honesty Committee or the Harpur College Dean's Office.
