Academic honors

Both swim teams earn national academic honors

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs have both been recognized as College Swimming Coaches Association (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Teams. A record 638 teams have been named College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America Teams for the fall of 2016.

We’re really proud of our young men and women continuing to strive to be the very best they can in the water and out,” remarked head coach Brad Smith. “They know how important it is to ensure academics is a top priority and to continue to be recognized semester to semester by the CSCAA demonstrates just that.”

The Scholar All-America award is in recognition of teams’ that achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester. The men’s team produced a 3.13 GPA during the fall semester, while the women’s team accumulated a 3.04. 91 additional teams and 36 more institutions achieved the honor compared to a year ago. CSCAA Executive Director feels much of the credit goes to the coaches, “Our coaches understand that the essence of intercollegiate athletics is the experience each student-athlete receives, and an emphasis on academics reflects what coaches feel is most important.”
