Emerging Leaders Program

Forty guests from the campus and community participated in the 8th annual Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) Leadership in Action networking event in Old Union Hall Friday, Nov. 3. Professionals from a variety of local non-profit organizations, businesses, school districts, as well as state and city governmental representatives and University leadership came together to interact with 78 first-semester freshmen and transfer students in roundtable discussions focused on everyday leadership challenges and opportunities.

Leadership in Action is a highlight of the fall semester ELP certificate-based experience, where six teams of new students also participate in weekly team meetings led by student mentors and volunteer faculty/staff program advisors, complete a leadership and life-skills workshop series, network with student leaders, learn about University and local area resources and put leadership into action through a new student-designed and implemented service-learning project in the local community, culminating in a poster symposium and closing ceremony.
