Student Affairs conference

Over 150 faculty, staff and graduate students from 11 institutions attended a regional conference hosted by Binghamton University’s Division of Student Affairs Friday, Nov. 10. The conference – “Challenging Biases and Eliminating the Echo” – featured keynote speaker Johanna Dunaway, associate professor of communication at Texas A&M University and Fellow at Harvard’s Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy; a media panel discussion with members of local media outlets; and breakout sessions with presenters from several institutions including Binghamton. Organizers of the conference hoped to arm participants with tools and strategies to recognize and challenge their own biases as well as to help the students they work with do the same.
