Fleishman Center’s Connections for Success Retreat earns Silver Award from NASPA

The Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development announces its Connection for Success program received a Silver Award for Careers, Academic Advising and Support from NASPA’s 2017-18 Excellence Awards. The Connections for Success weekend retreat is designed to engage sophomore students though interactive sessions led by alumni and employers. Lexie Avery, career consultant in residence, and Kelli K. Smith, assistant vice president for career programs and experiential education, presented during the NASPA Annual Conference Tuesday, March 5, about the weekend-long retreat. Their talk shared details of the retreat, stories of student-alumni collaboration and networking, ways to adapt this program to different campus environments and budgets, as well as data on the program’s positive student outcomes.

Spring Job and Internship Fair

The Fleishman Center hosted its spring Job and Internship Fair Tuesday, Feb. 6, in the Events Center. A record number of employers representing a variety of industries attended the fair, including Amphenol Aerospace, BAE Systems, Lourdes Hospital, Success Academy Charter Schools and more. The 2018 Fall Job and Internship Fair is scheduled to be held from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, in the Events Center. 

Binghamton in the City Week

The University’s annual Binghamton in the City Week helped students interact with alumni who work in the Greater New York area, see various work environments, learn about different professions and industries and expand their networks. Events took place from Monday, Jan. 8 - Friday, Jan. 12. The week featured 53 employer site visits with nearly 1,100 total student attendees and 473 unique student attendees. Metro Connections Night, the culminating event of the week, saw 300 Binghamton University student participants and featured over 100 alumni.

Washington, D.C. site visits

During spring break, the Fleishman Center headed to Washington, D.C. for site visits in our nation’s capital. These visits provided students with the opportunity to learn more about careers in the area as they were exposed to a variety of workplaces ranging from the U.S. Department of State to the Smithsonian Institution. The 2018 Washington, D.C. employer site visits took place from March 4-7.

Fleishman Center’s JCPenney Suit-Up saves students hundreds of dollars

Nearly 300 students attended the Fleishman Center’s First JCPenney Suit-Up Event Sunday, Jan. 28. Some students saved hundreds of dollars on professional clothing, thanks to the 40 percent discount offered exclusively to Binghamton University students. This event came just in time for the Job and Internship Fair, which took place Tuesday, Feb. 6.
