International student enrollment is up at Binghamton
Binghamton University has set an international student enrollment record for the fall 2012 semester! Total international student enrollment has increased by 10 percent from one year ago (2,375 vs. 2,161 in fall 2011) and is an enrollment record for Binghamton University. New international student enrollment has increased by 30 percent from one year ago.
The 2,375 international students hail from 109 countries; 899 are graduate students and 1,476 are undergraduate students. Undergraduate international student enrollment has increased by 15.6 percent (from 1,277 to 1,476) and graduate international student enrollment has increased by 1.7 percent (from 884 to 899).
The top four countries enrolling students at Binghamton are: China, the Republic of Korea, Turkey and India. The number of students from India, Taiwan, Kenya and Canada declined while the number of students from Turkey, Jordan and Japan all increased.
Binghamton is ranked 67th in the nation and 8th in New York state for international student enrollment (based on 2011-12 enrollment statistics, the most recent data available), and in 2011-12, Binghamton’s international students delivered an economic boost to the state that topped $53.5 million.

The countries listed above account for 86 percent of the total fall 2012 international student enrollment at Binghamton University. Among the top four, the positions remain unchanged for this year. The number of students from China increased by 24.7 percent from fall 2011. The number of students from the Republic of Korea increased by 12.6 percent. The number of students from India, Taiwan, Kenya and Canada declined, while the number of students from Turkey, Jordan and Japan all increased.
