Art Museum opens fall exhibitions

The Binghamton University Art Museum opened its fall exhibitions with a public reception from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29. The opening featured faculty members from the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts (NACTA) visiting from Beijing, China.

The new exhibitions include “Side by Side: Teacher and Student Designs from the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts,” presented in conjunction with the Binghamton University Theatre Department. The exhibition consists of costumes, costume design, set and lighting design produced by both teachers and students in Beijing. Also, “Between Two Worlds: Paintings by Ruby Wang” presents recent ink and watercolor paintings by the former resident of Binghamton, who now lives in her native city of Wuxi, China. The exhibition and accompanying catalogue have been generously supported by the Institute for Asia and Asian Diasporas, the Confucius Institute of Chinese Opera, and the New York Council of Asian Studies (NYCAS).

Also on view are “Marking the Past: Wax Rubbings taken from Monumental Brasses in England,” curated by Hannah Hempstead Dwiggins, BA-MA Combined Program in Art History; “Heightened Perspectives: Marilyn Bridges,” aerial photographs of known and not-so-well-known sites around the world; and “Faces of Buddhism,” which features centuries of Asian sculptures, paintings, and needlework.
Admission to the museum is free.
