University program is veteran-friendly

Binghamton University has been named by Victory Media as a Military Friendly School® for 2014, putting the University in the top 15 percent of schools nationwide. Victory Media is a veteran-owned business that publishes G.I. Jobs and Guide to Military Friendly Schools®!

The designation is based on the University’s demonstrated strong interest in recruiting military students, and its military friendliness.

In the past year, a Veterans Student Organization was established on campus to assist veterans in a smooth transition from the military to higher education and to provide a sense of camaraderie on campus.

In addition, four students who are veterans or dependents of veterans were awarded Press-Paperin Veterans Scholarships for this academic year, given to full-time students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher with proven financial need. The recipients – junior Edwin Ledbetter, junior Nathanial Kiff, sophomore Amber Drain and junior Russell Broere all far surpass the minimum GPA requirement.

Binghamton University has also maintained its Yellow-Ribbon School status for this academic year. Yellow-Ribbon schools voluntarily enter into an agreement with the Veterans Administration (VA) to make additional funds available for veteran students without an additional charge to their G.I. Bill entitlement. The schools choose the amount of tuition and fees that will be contributed and the VA matches the amount.
