AD Honor Roll recognizes 176 student-athletes

All 21 Binghamton University varsity teams are represented on the 2013 Fall Semester AD Honor Roll, released on Monday. A total of 176 student-athletes earned a 3.3 or higher grade-point average during the fall. The entire group will be recognized at halftime of the men’s basketball game on February 19.

“I’m continuously impressed with the dedication our student-athletes show to their academic and athletic endeavors,” Director of Athletics Patrick Elliott said. “This long list further demonstrates that Binghamton student-athletes not only juggle their rigorous academic commitments but they strive for and achieve remarkable success.”

The 176 recipients (out of 407) on the AD Honor Roll comprise 43 percent of the total student-athlete body.

71 percent of fall student-athletes named to America East Honor Roll

The America East Conference has released its Fall 2013 Academic Honor Roll and 71.1 percent of eligible student-athletes were named to the list. Student-athletes on the men’s and women’s soccer teams, volleyball squad and cross country teams who attained a 3.0 for the fall semester were selected to the honor roll.

The Bearcats ranked third among the nine conference schools in terms of the percentage of eligible student-athletes being named to the Fall 2013 America East Academic Honor Roll. Hartford had 78.8 percent followed by New Hampshire with 73.1 percent.

Student-athletes achieve highest fall semester GPA in 13 years

Binghamton University student-athletes surpassed the 3.0 mark for the 16th consecutive semester and made it three semesters in a row above a 3.1, the school announced on Monday. Binghamton’s 407 athletes achieved a 3.15 GPA for the fall semester - the highest fall GPA in 13 years.

Led by the women’s soccer team, which captured the department’s Academic Cup with a lofty 3.46 GPA, Binghamton student-athletes continued their penchant for academic success as nearly two-thirds of the entire student-athlete body (257) reached the 3.0 threshold and nearly one-third (126) eclipsed the 3.5 mark.

“We continue to be very proud of the academic success of our student-athletes and especially the tremendous results achieved this past fall semester,” Director of Athletics Patrick Elliott said. “Our student-athletes are committed to excellence both in and out of the classroom and they also demonstrate leadership, scholarship and service. They truly embody our motto of ‘Excellence with Honor.’”
