Prints, drawings and photographs from the University Art Museum’s permanent collection received special attention as part of the “50 Works on Paper” exhibition that was on display through April 5 in the museum’s main gallery. An opening reception was held Jan. 30.

The exhibition also served as a fundraiser to increase access to the permanent collection of more than 3,000 objects. Many works on paper were inadequately matted and stored. By providing a $500 gift, a donor became the official sponsor of one of the 50 works. The donor’s chosen piece of art was matted and placed in an archival box with other works and displayed on new shelving in a storage room adjacent to the Kenneth C. Lindsay Study Room.

Thirty-six works have been sponsored by a range of individuals and groups, including alumni, community members, student organizations, faculty and staff. To sponsor any of the remaining 14 works, go online. Pieces available for sponsorship include: Smoker at the Window by Adriaen van Ostade, “Black Revue” from The Boston Masscare by Larry Rivers and L’âne à l’Abreuvoir by Charles-François Daubigny.
